HTX scientific department receives research initiative fund

HTX Energy will be providing funds of up to 630 million ARS (almost 2.6 million USD) to its scientific research department for lithium battery research.

The funding will be used to research lithium extraction and the development and recycling of lithium batteries. The research that has been in the planning for the past 8 months covers advanced extraction technologies, economic improvement research and a huge focus on sustainable energy.

Research into lithium batteries will not only help strengthen the domestic battery supply chain but also create a new technological advancement that will affect the entire lithium battery industry.Research into lithium batteries will not only help strengthen the domestic battery supply chain but also create a new technological advancement that will affect the entire lithium battery industry.

The Research

Lithium batteries move lithium ions from the cathode to the anode during charging. When the anode is made of lithium metal, usage causes the surface to become fractured causing the battery to short or even catch fire.

The new research could see a solid-state battery that can be charged and discharged at least 10,000 times at a high current density. This battery technology could increase the lifetime of the batteries in electric vehicles up to 15 years, without the need for a replacement.

The funding will cover new research into a multilayer battery that utilizes different materials of varying stabilities between the anode and cathode. This multilayer, multi-material battery prevents the penetration of lithium and battery failure.
